About two weeks ago, a video of the world’s first live-streamed burglary spread like wildfire. All major Dutch and International online news sites, blogs and Facebook groups picked up on the video of the balsy burglar.

Luckily the live-streamed burglary wasn’t real, but staged by Grey Benelux for insurance company Nationale-Nederlanden in collaboration with ex-burglar Evert Jansen.

The campaign was created to raise awareness for the risk of burglaries during summertime and Nationale-Nederlanden’s household insurance product. Most people have good household insurance, but unfortunately it’s the emotional trauma that Nationale-Nederlanden cannot help them with.

To kick-off the campaign two famous Dutch blogs were tagged in the link to the live-stream of the burglary. One of the blogs created a short edit of the live-stream and posted it on their blog. Shortly thereafter the video went viral and created lots of discussion online.
